Title: PPTP, Samba not working
Post by: alebsack on February 05, 2004, 08:11:34 PM
Hey guys,

I have a client with SME6, who is is trying to connect the samba shares on there server through a PPTP VPN.  PPTP login and network browsing all work fine, but when trying to open the SME server in the Workgroup window (this is Windows XP pro, btw), it takes several minutes to just time out, saying that "might not have permissions to access the server".

I know that error is bogus, the typical 'might' work in the windows error leads me to believe that it's just a timeout.

Anyone else experience these problems?

Thanks for the feedback.

Adam

If a reboot of the xp box doesn't fix it, try using the IP address instead of the host name.
ie: try
\\server\sharename       --or--
\\192.168.0.1\sharename  --or--
\\user:password@server\sharename (might work)

Also, you could try omitting \sharename.

Did you try FTPing in just to makesure you have the correct username and passwords? You could also post the Samba log file errors as well.
