Title: Samba & multiple subnets.
Post by: J-L Boers on July 22, 2001, 08:55:20 AM
My Network folks have thrown me a new one and I need help.

Problem: W2K & Win9x workstations cannot see the e-smith server anymore in network neighborhood. They cannot access a common share (ibay) and map it as a network drive. They all used to be able to until more subnets were added.

Here is what happened. We had only one subnet. The network folks changed to 4 subnets and all workstations are on DHCP. E-smith box is still configured with a static IP and has valid DNS name.
The networks in question are
199.82.x.x  which has 2 subnets in use in this range
199.81.x.x  which also has 2 subnets in use in this range

I added the "new" networks in the e-smith panel as local networks.
I added the e-smith-server as the wins server.

Still no luck in seeing or connecting to the e-smith box i-bays. Searching the phorums has yielded me no usable results. I hope someone can point me in the right direction
Thanks

Have you tried searching for the server by name?  I have two e-smith servers that are on two different LANs in seperate locations.  I connect directly from my win2k client machine to one of the servers that is on the same LAN within the same workgroup.  I connect to the other server via VPN.  The second servers workgroup is different so I don't see it in network neighborhood.  I was able to search for the server by machine name, locate it, and map network drives to it.

Hope this helps,
