Title: newbie, needs, account creating help pleas?!

ok, i've been trying for hours now.. and i just can't get it to work.. please help me.

here is what i want

an ibay named: nick   (w/ the html and everything directories)
i want "nick" to be able to login to the base /ibay/nick directory w/ the password: blah blah

now.. i assumed i needed to make a group and a user name, and everything, to get this to work, but the closest i got was being able to login w/ the user nick, and password, but he had acccess to everything from /home/e-smith/files/ and up...

i need this so my friend can have a site like www.mydomain.com/nick/

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I'm definitely no expert but since no one replied to you yet, let me try.

Just create an iBay named nick with the required password. When your friend logs in from the internet, the logon will be the same name as the directory (nick in this case) and he will need to use the password you created. You do not need to create an internal user and/or group for this.

Well, it sounds to me like creating an i-bay with the same name as a user account is a BIG no no like the on-line manual (posted in this same site) says.

I don't really know why this should be like that but perhaps it's just one of those weird facts of life. Even though "nick" gets upset try creating an i-bay with another name.

Hope this "not help-a-lot" reminder helps you anyway.

This is because e-smith stores all account data in a single file, and all the identifiers (ie, "names") in that file must be unique -- whether user account names, i-bay account names, etc.
