Ok,
I have e-smith set up as a firewall/router on my cable modem. I want to use my laptop to dial up the internet from a remote location and establish a VPN connection to my e-smith server.
I turned on pptp and allowed 2 connections on the e-smith server.
I set up a VPN DUN connection as said in the docs for my Win98se laptop.
I downloaded the 128bit encryption update from the M$ windows update site. Here is what happens.
1) I establish an internet connection with my dial up account.
2) I double click on my VPN DUN connection and it brings up the "Connect to" window.
3) I enter my account password for my e-smith account and hit connect
4) The window goes briefly to dialing and disconnecting.
5) Then I get a Error Window that says the following:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Disconnected from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Dial-Up Networking was unable to complete the connection
Error: 645
The Microsoft Dial-Up Adapter is in use or not responding properly Disconnect other connections and then try again. If this problem persists, shutdown and restart your computer.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The only other DUN connection I have running is my interet connection and I have tried unistalling the 128bit encrytion upgrade and reinstalling it and the same proble occures.
Anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong?
TIA
Steve

I am having the same problems with my Windows 2000 setup!
Ahhh.... The e-smith manual is pretty weak in this area... no screenshots or anything.
I guess that's how they get you to pay for support...

I have had similiar problems and have had to reboot esmith then all works fine. It's like the pptpd is dying or something.

I have Win98SE. DUN 1.4 don“t update (outside US and Canada) a file under "windows/system" named "pppmac.vxd". I had to uninstall DUN 1.4 and then install orginal dun again, then copy one file "pppmac.vxd" from DUN 1.4 to "windows/system". Then you have 128 bit encryption. My pptp or vpn works great after this.
