Title: s/mime webmail with IMP?
Post by: dhardy on February 19, 2004, 03:37:05 PM
Hi guys,

I've been looking for a way to do digitally signed and encrypted email through webmail.

I've toddled along to www.instantssl.com and picked up a couple of free digital IDs for testing and used them successfully with IE6, Mozilla and Outlook. Outlook Web Access on Exchange 2003 seems to do it, although I have only been able to decrypt encrypted emails through OWA, rather than send signed or encrypted ones.

Horde.org links to a demo site where IMP has s/mime and PGP options available. I thought that maybe the option is off by default so I've looked through the horde folder tree on my SME 6 but can't find anything that looks like it may be able to switch it on.

Does anyone know if this is easy to do, or will it require me to upgrade horde/imp to a newer version - is this one for the wishlist?

Links:

http://www.instantssl.com    - free digital IDs
http://www.horde.org/        - horde project homepage
http://webmail.demo.hub.org/ - demo site with s/mime in Imp.

TIA,

David.

That's the CVS version of horde/IMP.  Once it's done and released I hope it will be part of the default SME.  It does require a minimum of php 4.2.

As hordeusr said, the demo site is for the development version of horde/imp.  Once horde 3.0/IMP 4.0 are released, I'm planning on packaging them for use with SME, but I'm really not sure how long that will be.
