Title: PPTP (VPN)
Post by: Madison Curry on July 25, 2001, 04:55:45 PM
We recently installed an e-smith box and I am trying to get the PPTP to work from at home.  (I am trying to connect from my Windows 98 SE Home Machine to the E-Smith Server at work.)  I can connect and stay connected just fine.  But when I go to network neighborhood I cannot see the e-smith box.  If I try and search for the servers name is also comes up empty.  Yet if I ping the IP for the Server I get a response.

I have checked the workgroup and they are both the same.  I made sure I am logging onto the Windows 98 Machine with the same username and password.  But so for no luck.  Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help,

Madison Curry

Did you check that NetBEUI is an allowed network protocol on the client? If not, that might be it. I haven't done that myself though.

Also make sure your win 98 is running 128bit encryption. Wont work otherwise.

NetBEUI was not installed so I installed it.  But it did not help.  Any other ideas?

Yes I am using the 128bit version of DUN.

Thanks,

Have you set the "Log on to network" option in the Dial-Up options?
