Title: 6.0 bug detecting gig ethernet interface after restore
Post by: patrickthickey on February 27, 2004, 09:33:26 PM
I performed a full backup of a 6.0 machine, did a clean build on a new server with an Intel gig Ethernet card.

After the initial clean build and boot, I was able to reach the server via the web GUI. I performed a restore from desktop, which went OK and completed. I rebooted and was unable to reach the web GUI.

I used the local console access and walked through the configs again. The restore had caused the server to use the e100 Ethernet driver insted of the (correct) e1000 ethernet driver.

I changed it manually, rebooted and all is well. Seems like this is a small glitch?

FYI.

regards,

patrick

I believe this is by design since I have had the same exact experience since v4.x. While you can use the backup / restore to change to new hardware and versions, the restore tries to put the system back in the same exact state it was when the backup was done. Thus you could just restore and forget it if you had a hard drive crash or something similar.

Yes, nothing to fix here. The restore does just that, it restores - including all settings. If you need to change the settings, just change them, using the console.
