Title: Problems with Amavis / Clamav virus scanning
Post by: Rien on February 29, 2004, 03:36:29 PM
Hi,

I use the commercial and GPL products from Dungog.net.

I installed the following rpm's on a SME 6.0 final server:

Dungog (Buy)

Amavis & Clamav (GPL)

H+BEDV (AnitiVir)

Everything works fine, untill I updated the rpm:

with:

Now every mail I sent is marked as "Problem mail" and will only be sent through if I release it in the "Virus scanning" panel in the server manager.

What goes wrong here?

I had the same type of problem when installing the server manager panel from pagefault.org on my 5.6 machine.

Installed

clamav-es-libs-0.67p1-es01.i386.rpm
clamav-es-0.67p1-es01.i386.rpm

And everything worked fine.

Dungog (Buy)
  • dungog-antivirus-0.1.6-9.noarch.rpm

Amavis & Clamav (GPL)

If you manually update a previous installation of clamav repeat the section in the howto  http://www.pagefault.org/howto/amavis_clam.shtml (http://www.pagefault.org/howto/amavis_clam.shtml) regarding 'Clam Daemon Configuration'.

Your issue is due to the wrong permissions on several key files and directories, which would be causing clamd not to start.

The clamav packages labeled clamav-es no longer require this, but the user below ran into problems due to ignoring the dependencies for the web panel, which include clamav-es and _sme 6.0_. (Perhaps if a large proportion of people still use 5.6 there should be a release for 5.6 of it...)

People using e-smith-antivirus on sme 6.0 only need to run yum -c ./yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf update to keep all the packages up to date once installed.

Hi Damien,

The dungog-antivirus-0.1.6-9.noarch.rpm provides a server-manager panel and with the devinfo-mitel-update-system-0.0.1-15.noarch.rpm I keep the rpm's up to date.

When I had clamav-0.60-2.i386.rpm installed, everything works fine.

With clamav-0.65-6.i386.rpm and clamav-libs-0.65-6.i386.rpm installed, it scans the files on the server properly, it also updates de virusdefinition files. Just the mailscan don't work properly.

What does clamav-0.65-6.i386.rpm and clamav-libs-0.65-6.i386.rpm more than the old clamav-0.60-2.i386.rpm (does it have different functionallity)?

On my testserver (clean installation) both new rpm's works fine!

For dungog-antivirus users only
Damien has given the pointer to the answer

dungog-antivirus usually installs after clam* and changes ownerships, if a later clam* is installed the permissions get changed back to incorrect values

uninstall and reinstall the rpm either with update-system or
rpm -e dungog-antivirus and
rpm -Uvh dungog-antivirus......
