Title: How do I Compile a Driver?
Post by: NickCritten on March 02, 2004, 11:17:01 AM
Hi Everyone,

I know the immediate answer I will get is "don't bother - Download a pre-compiled RPM driver" but there isn't one that I can find so I'm stuffed.

I need to get this driver compiled, and the instructions with the driver look fairly straight forward, (they can be viewed in this post, http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=17097.msg66336#msg66336
where someone else was in the same predicament)
but as I understand it SME does not ship with the stuff it needs to compile drivers.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a howto or instruct me in detail how to accomplish this task... I'm geting desperate. :)

I'm running 6.0 Final with the following Add-ons:
Powerswitch
IPSec VPN
amavis (Clamav Antivirus)

Cheers!

Nick

However - you will need to adapt this to suit 6.0.

Took about half a minute to find using that little thing up in the top right hand corner.

Firstly, Thankyou Very much for finding this for me - Much Appreciated.

However your sarcastic tone really was completely unwarranted, I HAD used the search tool using the following terms:

compile
compile driver
compile howto
driver howto
custom driver
modem driver
modem compile

It was only AFTER I had searched through these and found only one related topic which had No resolution did I resort to asking directly.
Without knowing the specific name for the howto, and as I'm a bit of a linux newbie and do not know all the different terms used in the community relating to Driver compilation, how exactly was I supposed to find it?

Again, I very much appreciated you spending the time to reply to my question, but please reserve your sarcastic comments for someone who actually deserves them?

Thanks.

Nick
