Title: The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file?
Post by: guest on March 03, 2004, 12:50:42 AM
Hi,
Had an existin mixed windows ME, and XP Home network. There is an access mdb file that was used reliably with no troubles.
Installed the SME 6.0 server, set up an ibay "shdata" full access to everyone.
Only the xp home pc's can open the access database file.
All WinME and one Win98 machine kick up a Microsoft Access Window with the following error:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'S:\PMSCH~9Q\PM_sched.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Has anyone run into this, or know a work around?
Thanks

You probably need to disable opportunistic file locking on the server. Follow this instructions in the following thread

I just wanted to comment further, that we have found, if you open access first, and then the database there are no troubles at all.
The XP machines can open the file directly, the win9x can't.
