Title: SME 6.0 Restore from Tape + re-adding users.
Post by: Simon on March 04, 2004, 09:29:22 AM
Hi all

My client had a hard drive failure.  I have reloaded the server with a fresh install - and then did a Restore from Tape.  The restore ran smoothly - all the data appears to be intact.  Except that the ownerships on the majority of the folder are now admin:admin instead of user:user. I have chowned all the important ones but I am still having problems with mail delivery.
Decided to remove and add the users again but after backing up their data and removing their accounts the server tells me:

"Error: the account "username" can't be created because there is already a user-deleted account of that name."

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Simon

Search forums on user-deleted account and you will find the answer. The secret is to search first

May be I'm dumb but a search on "user-deleted" only brought up this forum entry plus a few others:

I have the same problem with an account I removed and tried to add again and this

Error: the account "whatshisface" can't be created because there is already a user-deleted account of that name.

came up.

try:
/sbin/e-smith/db accounts delete username
where username is the name of the deleted user

PS: clicking "show all results" located towards the bottom of the result page is the real secret...
