Title: i can´t remote connect to with ssh to sme server 5.6..help.
Post by: gizm0 on March 04, 2004, 10:06:31 AM
HI!
i have trouble with signing in to sme server version 5.6.
I have changed the root and admin password different. So the linux root has different password and sme server console has different.
I have tried from server to get to linux root and it works and the sme serve works. But when i try to connect to linux console ...the login and password fails to work :(.
FTP and HTTP access works fine and i can connect remote to sme server with admin username but not to linux console with root username.
Any advices? I have enabled ssh connection. So it works for connecting to sme server console.

Hi,
I am not 100% sure but I think that you can only get to the console using admin and the admin password.
Hope this helps.

You must allow SSH & console access in the server manager, but after that it works fine.  If you establish a PPtP VPN connection to the server from outside, you can then SSH to the internal IP and do your work from anywhere.  You said you changed the root & admin passwords; perhaps in the tightly-interconnected SME world that screwed something up.

Hi,
I have changed my root password to something different to the admin password and mine still works great, I have a test machine and the passwords are still the same as each other but you can't get to the console as root, only admin. So I don't think that changing the password for root makes any difference. I use root for installing rpms etc. and admin to configure etc. Just my 2 cents worth.
