Title: HP LaserJet 4 problem.
Post by: safeldt on March 04, 2004, 10:20:51 AM
I use SME 6.0 server where I have connected network printer.

One HP LaserJet 4 connected to 192.168.1.100
It prints ok, but status on a windows 2000 workstation printer displays “access denied, unable to connect”.

One HP LaserJet 4 SI connected to 192.168.1.101
It can’t print, status on a windows 2000 workstation printer displays “opening”.
But nothing happens.
I try to move this printer to the SME server from another windows 2000 workstation who shares it to the network today. (I shut it down when testing on sme).

Does it work okay if you map a printer port from the workstaions directly to those printers?

this sorta prob has been discussed a lot on the forums a good search should reveal lots of info.

Alternative is to install CUPS or use an LPR driver for your Win9x boxes (there are a few free ones around on the net)

DLink has one on their site which is pretty generic:
