Title: swapping second mirror drive for off-site backup
Post by: brad on March 05, 2004, 07:57:59 PM
Hello Everyone,

After searching the forums for an 'easy' backup solution I came up with this idea:

What if my server is freshly installed with software mirroring, and I had three identical ide drives. I want only two ide drives to be in the server at a time and the third to be an off-site backup.

Each morning, I would power off the server and swap only the secondary ide drive (using a drive caddy of course) and power it back on.

Would the RAID array automatically rebuild? I guess it would because it would just be like replacing a defective drive, right?

Thank-you,
Brad D.

-I am running SME 6.0Final

Invest a little bit over $200 to hardware RAID subsystem AccuSYS 7500 and you will be able to do it without powering down the server and without affecting (severely) performance.
