Title: clamd dead but subsys locked, messages to problems directory
Post by: raem on March 09, 2004, 06:53:44 AM
I have a server running sme v6.0 with clamavis-ng installed and working OK (was).
Today users reported they were receiving virus attachments. I ran freshclam to
update the virus database and received check sum errors at the end of the download. Tried a number of times with the same result.

Now clamd is dead and all mail is going into the problems directory. I turned off (disabled) amavis-ng
and rebooted the server but still get

clamd dead but subsys locked

Here's some of what I did

/sbin/service clamd stop
and
/sbin/service clamd start
which ran OK

Then tried updating with freshclam again a few times.

Later I tried
/sbin/service clamd status

clamd dead but subsys locked

/sbin/service clamd stop
Shutting down clamd:                                       [ FAILED ]

/sbin/service clamd start
Starting clamd:                                            [   OK   ]

Clearly clamd is NOT running and all mail is going into the problems folder.
How can I get clamd turned back on ?

Thanks
Ray
Title: one can try the latest from pagefault.org

which clam install/contrib do you use
which sme is it
have you recently upgraded or made any other changes.

if sme =>v6 then you can try the latest install from pagefault.org which so far has quite sucessfully upgraded 2 systems without ill effects.

I experienced exactly the same on a 6.0 box (posted it here some weeks ago), it was a bug in a certain amavis version. Updated with the package from pagefault it will go away. There is another solution which is described in the old post.

But there is definitely a problem with the user panel user vacation/autreply/enable procmail panels. I have not dug into that but fiddling around with that will break amavis/spamassassin settings. Better you leave hands off that.
