Title: raid recovery problem
Post by: StPurple on March 11, 2004, 08:33:17 PM
I'm so happy I installed a software raid on my system........except.....

Last monday one of the drives went down. I use the recovery howto to restore the new drive. Everything went fine untill the point that I have to install the bootloader on the newly placed disk. For some reason I get an error saying
Code: [Select]
[root@bahamut root]# lilo -C /root/raidmonitor/lilo.conf -b /dev/hdb
Ignoring entry 'boot'
Warning: /dev/hdb is not on the first disk
Added Mitel-SME-smp
Added Mitel-SME-up
Fatal: No images have been defined.
[root@bahamut root]#

The bootloader is indeed not installed. Any suggestions.

b.t.w. using sme v6.0

St. Purple,

If you installed a SME 6.x standard Raid 1 (?), you should have used the pair of drives called hda and hdc.

/dev/hdb ...indeed doesn't have any part in all of that.

Why not post your INITIAL error message that tells what disk went wrong,
then describe WHAT (faq) you used in more detail and
WHEN you get that error message you posted.
...my crystal ball isn't clear enough to assume all that  data and give a useful answer...
At least give us your raidtab  and possibly the result old that cat /proc/mdstat ...message
