Title: Virtual Domains question
Post by: mindea on March 13, 2004, 03:43:47 AM
I have E-smith 6 running at my office. I set up a virtual domain called "xyz.com". I modified the host domain record at my ISP to point xyz.com to the server, but when I browse to xyz.com, the browser goes to the primary domain web page, not the virtual domain web page. Isn't it supposed to automatically go to the xyz i-bay?

What am I missing, here?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, you had the ISP point your DNS to the server, but did you have them add the virtual domain?  If they didn't, thats probably why.  Is the domain you are trying to use registered to you/your company?  If it is, point the DNS  A  Record to your server IP and that should be it.

Hope this helps
Title: Virtual Domains question

Hmm. I'm confused. Here's more detail.

The actual domain A record reads:

WIFISUPPLYUSA.COM ........ 64.105.18.59

My E-Smith server at that IP address has a primary domain called MINDEA and the virtual domain, WIFISUPPLYUSA.COM.

The WIFISUPPLYUSA.COM points to it's own i-bay. At this time, WIFISUPPLYUSA.COM is the only Internet domain pointing to this IP address.

What else can I tell you?

Thanks for your speedy reply, cc_ckavenger. I'll be looking for your answer.

Ok,
So you have the DNS record right.  You created an I-bay and set it to public, no password for entire internet with the group as admin; write privileges given to group and read privileges given to everyone.  You created a vitual domain of wifisupplyusa.com and told the virtual domain to use the Ibay created for the website and not the primary Ibay? (<---------This previous part is where I think your error is.)  Thats about all that needs to be done for this to work (If I am missing something, please - someone - fill in the gap.)

Hope this helps

PS.

E-mail me some contact info, I work for a wireless ISP and am always looking for good sources for products/hardware.

"Yes" to all as stated. The virtual domain points to an iBay called 'wifi'. The E-Smith Manager's "Manage Domains" form looks like this (not including the Primary Domain entry):

Domain: wifisupplyusa.com
Description: WiFi Supply USA
Content: wifi i-bay

<<You created an I-bay and set it to public, no password for entire internet with the group as admin; write privileges given to group and read privileges given to everyone. You created a vitual domain of wifisupplyusa.com and told the virtual domain to use the Ibay created for the website and not the primary Ibay?>>
