I would like to have the default e-mail server not to have to point to an isp account and be totally stand along ie and e-mail sent to root@thepercivals.co.uk would be downloaded straight to the computer and not have gone through an isp's e-mail server?
does e-smith support this out of the box or is specialised configuration needed, the manual seems to be no help!
thx

Short answer = yes
To use your isp's mail server requires additional setup in the Server Manager.

Use the Manual.
Out of the box installation sets the SME Server as the default mail server. If you set it up with thepercivals.co.uk as the domain and your DNS service points mail.thepercivals.co.uk to your fixed IP address then it will work by default.
If you don't have a fixed IP address then you will need to arrange for a Dynamic DNS service.
