Anyone else facing problems with Freshclam?? It seems connecting is not possible.
-
From time to time the servers are down or the file get corrupted. In the past this has always corrected itself in a day or so.

Hello,
What did you have in your mirror file.
/usr/share/clamav/mirrors.txt
Maybe add
database.clamav.net
on the top of that file will solve the problem.
Regards.

It was listed as the second option. I made it the first. Will wait and see what happens. Thanks,

If your servers are in europe then try using the following:
clamav.dbplc.com
clamav.kratern.se
clamav.essentkabel.com
Also have a look at http://www.clamav.net/mirrors.html

Does clamav cycle through the various mirrors listed in /usr/share/clamav/mirrors.txt? IE does it try the first one, then if fail send an email but try the second?
Mainly what I am wondering is I have recieved many failures on update to clamav.catt.com in the past two days. Has it then defaulted and updated from the second in my list database.clamav.net? Or has it not updated definitions in two days?
Thanks

I have been getting constant cron messages for the past couple of days advising that it "Can't connect to port 80 of host clamav.catt.com".
I had one two hours ago advising the same but for all the hosts in the DB. It then went back to just clamav.catt.com.
I sumise from this that the update is completing most of the time from the second host in the list and only fails totally when I get failure messages back from all. Can anyone who actually knows about how ClamAV works confirm this?

From the ClamAV website:
freshclam downloads the database from (http://database.clamav.net/) .
database.clamav.net is a round robin record that tries
to equally balance the traffic between all the database
mirrors. The round robin record allows us to alter the
mirrors list in real-time, thus if a mirror stops
working or ceases to get updates it can be removed
immediately from the list without any intervent on the
user side.
As of March 2004 we attempt to redirect our users to
the closest pool of mirrors by looking at their ip
source
For a quick test, get to your prompt and type "freshclam" - this will give you info on your current virus database.
From my experience, it's normal that you'll get the occasional error message. It's usually okay as you'll likely connect fine soon after and receive the latest update.
