I created a web site on a i-bay for a friend of mine. I created a standard user. I installed XOOPS-2.
Now, my friend would like to download files to his web site. I though of using ssh but I found that an ordinary user cannot login with ssh.
I search the contribs site and found webshare from Darrel May but there is not too much informations on how it is working.
How can I let my friend download files without compromising security?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Well webshare is the answer.
Just instal it and you will see a new panel in server manager where you can create webshare folders and setup user name(s) and password(s). They are not the same as sme server account names, you can have one or many.
To upload and download files just browse to https://www.yourdomain.com/webshare/foldername
and you will see various selectable options for uploading and downloading.

I am sorry but I don't understand how to do it.
I made a dir under my html: webshare/test
I chmod it to 777
I can see it from a browser.
It never asked me to authenticate
How do I put files in it from the browser or else?

Perkhaps you should uninstal any existing web share rpm(s) first.
Get these
devinfo-mitel-webshare-0.0.1-3.noarch.rpm
perl-Apache-Htpasswd-1.3-10.i386.rpm
from here
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/mitel/contrib/webshare/
and instal them both, see the instal.sh script.
This adds a Web Shares panel under the Collaboration section in server manager.
Create new web share folders and user names and passwords using the Web Shares panel in server manager, command line mods are NOT necessary and you will possibly break security doing so.
If you create a web share called sharedstuff, then access it using
https://www.mydomain.com/webshare/sharedstuff
Note the https (NOT http) this gives the secure access, you must create at least one user name and password for each web share folder (using the web shares panel).
When you access the web share you will be asked for a login name and password.
When logged in, it is fairly obvious how to download and upload files, just click on the option required and select files by browsing.
Hope this explains it clearly enough.
