I'm interested in running SLIM Server on the SME box; a forum search shows some people have done this - but doesn't tell me ho. I know how to get the rpm for this - is it just a case of install and hope?

Shocking bad manners to replt to one's own post :hammer:, but however...
I'd downloaded the rpm to my windows box.
Copied it to my own (user)file area on SME.
Looged to the server at console as root.
Used MC to copy the rpm to packages.
Found a command called install; swallowed hard; ran it.
Seemed to work OK. Couldn't see server from clients. Wouldn't stream files. pshaw.
Found command in install.txt - start with
etc/rc.d/init.d/slimserver start
Disaster. No streaming.... can't see slimserver.
Why? 'cos a prat had used an ip address to see the server - and mistyped it. I was that prat.
ibay set up to manage mp3s and playlists. Populated it. Now works fine. Guess it was easier than I feared. :-)

I normally just do a rpm -Uvh sli*.rpm.
