Title: Can't access e-smith manager from another computer.
Post by: Ian on August 09, 2001, 01:38:02 PM
Here is the situation. I have the e-smith server set up as a server and gateway, but no computers using it as a gateway, but other computers in the house accessing the internet with extra ip addresses from my isp. When I try to access the e-smith manager from another computer in my house, it trys to access the 192.168.1.1 which is the private ip address for the E-smith server, and cant do it, even if I put the puplic ip address in (#.#.#.#/e-smith-manager/) to access the esmith manager it still trys 192.168.1.1.

Accessing a web page is normal from an outside computer.

Can anyone help?

You can only access the e-smith-manager page from INSIDE your local network. As your PC's are using ip addresses assigned by your ISP they are OUTSIDE the servers local network.

You should be able to use SSH to access the Admin Panel to make changes if required.

Just a question... Why aren't you using the e-smith server as a gateway (you say you have it set up as one)?
