Title: HOWTO unpatch the double bounce patch?
Post by: icpix on March 26, 2004, 09:19:58 AM
Ray (I think it was Ray) posted an otherwise excellent patch to resolve the double bounce problem and it worked really well in its time:-)

I have now subscribed to Dungog's email package and am concerned that there is now a duplication of double bounce stuff at work on the server;~/ (so much work just to deal with utter rubbish...)

mkdir -p /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/alias/
touch /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-oblivion
/bin/echo "#" > /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-oblivion
mkdir -p /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/control/
touch /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/control/doublebounceto
/bin/echo "oblivion" > /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/control/doublebounceto
/sbin/e-smith/expand-template /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-oblivion
/sbin/e-smith/expand-template /var/qmail/control/doublebounceto
service qmail restart

...would appreciate knowing how to undo these original command lines (example quoted above).

I just wrote the howto, someone else created the solution.

Well, that's the beauty of the templating system, if you add a custom template and stuff up the server or want to undo your changes, you just reverse the procedure !!!

I'm no expert but try something like.......

rm /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-oblivion

rm /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/var/qmail/control/doublebounceto

/sbin/e-smith/signal-event email-update

/etc/init.d/qmail restart

Hope I got it right, let me know here

Thank you Ray. That seems to have done the trick... well, judging by the number of double bounce messages now appearing in admin;~/

I hadn't forgotten about you. Just disappearing up my own tail chasing stuff to install which can actually deal with spam and unfriendly emails etc... as opposed to just promise that it does.

So far have purchased Dungog's emailfilter package ($33), sort of installed (!?) cLAM, AMAVIS-NG, SPAMASSASSIN rpms via a number of different suppliers all purporting simplicity and effectiveness. All the installers seem to work (!?) but none of them -have- got themselves operating properly in full;~/ All of them have bits that work and stuff that doesn't. It's maddening.

I think that if I can get SPAMASSASSIN to show I might have got at least somewhere this weekend! I see bits of it dotted around. I've even had an email from it about it detecting a worm in my ultimate favourite mercilessly spammed for 4 year email account. But its server-manager control panel remains conspicuous in its continued absence:~|

I may be some time.

Finally got the SPAMASSASSIN panel to show... Swert-Knudsen's site SH script seems to have commented out the SA panel's rpm, presumably for his own good reasons. However, as other rpms are pointing to his script and whose subsequent intelligence sort of needs the Blotwijk rpm to be installed, it leaves idiots like me running around in headless circles disappearing up my own singular event horizon;~/

Not forgetting another, seemingly necessary, tweak involving the AMAVIS-NG config file (needing an qmail entry to allow it run concurrently with SA... or something like that). I'm really not an expert in all this. I take photographs. Computers are needed throughout. And it's the latter bit that's where things always start to get messy for me.

Stuff is rolling - I think. 'Xpect the logs to be full to the brim with reconfig lines, errors, and gunk like that but hopefully I will now be able to educate myself on how all this (antivirus, spam trapping, TMDA) properly works in actual practise.

Many thanks to the contribs.org archive, its myriad human feeders, for all the pointers and URLs - g'night:-)

Above was me. The forum's user and password boxes WERE filled in but the cookie must have timed out or something. It keeps tricking me. I'm used to being logged into forums for WEEKS on end as I have a broadband connection. See my earlier filed forum Bug Report...
