Has anyone successfully implimented the
Clam-AV from pagefault.org and
ASSP by DMay
on an SME 6?
Any pointers?
I don't think it's a problem since
1. ASSP package just redirects the "smtp" port to 125
(I assume to force mailfront to listen on port 125)
2. Assp takes over port 25.
3. Assp, if the email is not rejected, passes it to
port 125, where it is picked up by mailfront.
I think Clam-AV hooks in after mailfront
picks up the email.... So ... no conflicts???
Can anyone confirm my assumptions.?
Thank You,
Ed

Hi Ed,
I use both ASSP and ClamAV/Amavis-ng and everything works great. I just installed ASSP according to the how-to and then installed ClamAV/Amavis-ng via yum (pagefault how-to). Go for it!

I run both with much better results than a spamassassin and clamav combination. I use the ASSP rpm. It added a bunch of e-mail to the spam and notspam folders as examples I guess. It did a poor job of filtering for us(in test mode), so I emptied both folders and ran it in test mode for a while(where SPAM is still delivered) and sorted the e-mail into the correct spam/notspam folders--not much fun. After a week or so, I didn't need to do any more manual sorting. Turned off test mode and we have been going great ever since. Just make sure your users know how ASSP works--the assp site has an excellent example of what to tell all the users. We only use webmail(imp, turba, kronolith, mnemo, nag, and vacation modules), so I set it up that 'report as spam' sends to assp-spam@mydomain.net. If they report a spam message assp learns from it without intervention from me :) They could also forward to the usual assp-spam, but that is to hard for most of my users.
