Hi all!
I have a "stand alone" SME file server on the network where certain files infrequently need to be accessed (read access for "nobody") from time to time. This server is NOT PDC, and shouldn't really need any added users. (Another SME is doing the netlogon/PDC/master browser stuff) The clients are mainly WinXP Pro.
I have experimented a little with the samba setting on this "secondary file server" but don't seem to pinpoint which settings I need to adjust, or should I add some more settings in order to do this?
(Of course I'm aware of the template system, - but before editing the templates one need to know WHAT to edit...)

Hello
One way to do what you need is to upload the files to
your server to the directory below then you or anyone else
can simply just connect by ftp or web browser to the server
ie: ftp://ftp.domain.com or ftp://ip-address
this will take you to a public access directory on your server
people can read or download only admin can upload
place your files in - if you are using sme 6.0 or 6.0.1
/home/e-smith/files/ibays/Primary/files
this is right next to your website directory - html
please note the P in primary
hope this helps

Thank you, Gbaird, for your answer, but that's not really an answer to my original question...
For various reasons, I really need to find out how to disable this fine security feature in Samba, just imagine if I need to enable this on just SOME ibays, but not on other?
I used to manage this on earlier versions of E-smith (security in samba obviously lower, or I was younger then...), but in 6.xx those methods just don't work anymore.
Anyone smarter out there???
