Title: USER ACCOUNTS NOT SHOWING
Post by: Tim on August 10, 2001, 07:44:10 PM
Hi all,

I just created a NEW USER ACCOUNT and it the system said all is well and setup.  The account does NOT appear in the account list, but does show up in FTP as a valid account.  I can't get into it because the password has not been reset.

Any ideas on how to get it to show up and/or deleted so I can recreate it?

I used the firstname.lastname naming convetion.

Thanks for your help!

OK, this is a total SWAG, but I remeber having the same problem at one point.  I bet the accounts show up in the alias list also.  I believe the problem is caused by using the firstname.lastname convention as I remember.  I switched to a naming convention that doesn't use characters, just alpha numeric and I haven't experienced any problems since.  Hope this helps!  Also, aliases will automatically be setup based on the first name and last name values you enter (firstname.lastname and firstname_lastname) so if you set up a user with a user name of john, a firstname of John, and a lastname of Smith, the following would occur:

username john
email:
john@domain.com
John.Smith@domain.com
John_Smith@domain.com

Thanks,
John G.

Two days ago I just noticed that about 60 of my accounts no longer appear in the account list of e-smith-manager.  This sounds similar to your problem except that all these accounts were showing fine before.  I am using e-smith 4.1.1.  The accounts still exist and work fine, but e-smith-manager won't show them on the list of all accounts.  I have about 200 accounts total on the system and all of a sudden only 140 or so are showing.

Anyone have any ideas of how to check the scripting that creates that html page?  Is there some limit to the number of accounts that e-smith-manager can show?

Thanks,

Tim
