Title: PPTP
Post by: TBCOMP on April 03, 2004, 12:40:02 AM
Hi

Please help.

Just got Broadband to replace ISDN, and have a Speedtouch Home modem/router.

Seems the best way to connect to BTBROADBAND in the UK is via PPTP.

Has anyone added PPTP to SME server, is there a howto available.

Thanks

Tony

I did it a couple of years back, it was a PITA.

I used http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/. A lot of behind the scenes playing around. Pity you have the router. The billion routers are cheap and have pptp clients built in. If you have a spare machine - checkout http://m0n0.ch/wall/

Ok - sorted it.

A lot of googling and hacked the Speedtouch Home to a Speedtouch Pro by changing some software parameters.

The Pro connects via PPP and presents the ISP provided IP address to the Eth1 interface of SME server where it is picked up by the built in dyndns client which fixes your dynamic address.

At the price the Speedtoch homes can be had for on Ebay I rate it a great solution.
