Title: web hosting plans? Recommendations
Post by: BlueSky on April 04, 2004, 11:30:43 AM
I'm writing to ask for recommendations for reliable and cheap web hosting services that have been tested before.

What I'm looking for is Unix/Linux based hosting solution. It should have MySQL and PHP. It should also allow me to have access through SSH.

So, any recommendations?

Thanks,

BlueSky

Suggest you use a dyndns service and host your web
on your sme server.

Works great, however setting up & testing the dyndns client is a little time consuming.

Then you won't have to pay hosting fees.

Well, I wish I can do this, but I don't have the bandwidth to host my own website. That's why I'm searching for affordable service that will give me almost what I have on SME.

http://1sthostweb.com/ 's annual fees may seem low as long as you never use more than 1Gb of bandwidth and 25MB storage. The over charges are out of the world... $15USD/month for every 500 Mb transfer over 1Gb is very expensive.

Hi Bluesky,
Never looked properly, a search on google pulled this one up http://www.lowesthosting.com they offer Unlimited Hits Up To 200GB Transfer and 200 MB of Web, Email & DB Storage for $4.95 per month. I hope this helps.

Del

I was recently looking for the same and happened to hear of this site on TechTV/callforhelp

http://www.thehostingchart.com/

I reviewed the ratings and went ahead and purchased a test plan with the #1 rated ixwebhosting...so far all is fine. FWIW, Leo Leporte of Techtv uses and recommended the #4 iPowerweb.

Hope it helps

I have my own server up with dyn dns with sme server..works decent but you have to do some hacking on it because things are broke out of the box. You want something cheap and easy? I just bought my girlfriends kid a site at http://trustlogic.com  his site is http://trustandbetrayal.com  and mine running the e-smith from my home is http://stranglerfig.com I paid 90 for the year and it includes the .com name free setup php 10 gigs transfer a month and much more. very easy interface..
