Title: entering initial password

after installing e-smith, it asks me to put in my inital administrator password. I do that , then verify on the next screen, the system then loops back to the original screen, and asks me to enter a password, eventhough I just did it. I have re installed and that didnt help.

Just guessing here, maybe one of the charactures you are using is not acceptable?

I had the excact same problem on two new e-smith servers (v.4.1.2) a few weeks ago. I ended up finding out that the problems where related to the cd-rom drives (Acer 50 x speed). I replaced the drives with two Samsung drives and voila everything worked as expected again.

did you have to reinstall e smith after you changed the drives? or were you able to continue on after you changed them

thanks, I changed cd rom drive, did not help, I think it is hardware related, but I am not sure where to go from here, I will just start swapping stuff out. and try burning a new cd.
