phpBB and InvasionBoard seem to be the main alternatives for discussion forums.

There is a phpBB2 howto
http://www.familybrown.org/howtos/phpbb2-howto.html

It works in v5 as well. Good luck.

I saw that howto but it does not list v6, does it work for 6 also?

Thanks!

I just installed phpbb on my v6 box 3 days ago. All I did was followed the phpbb doc its real easy. But it go like this either upload it to a folder in the websites ibay or make a new ibay that can be accessed from the internet...then just run the install file http://www.mydomain.com/phpBB2/install/install.php

For me I made a folder called phpbb in my primary ibays html folder then put all the phpbb files maintaing there folder stucture in the phpbb folder. I then went to http://www.mydomain.com/phpBB2/install/install.php
and followed the prompts..

thats it.... hope this helps

I did the same thing and that didnt help. I assume when you follow a README you should follow whats in it. Yet just like most open source doc files they assume one thing or another and are not exact.

To go by your notes the doc file DID NOT tell you to make a folder from your ibay did it? It said download TAR then tar -xzf etc....and cd /OPT/ and what do you know.. there's a phpBB2 DIR! This is the problem with "unsupported stuff" lol

On the main forum page you should be able to log on.

Use the admin account with the password you provided during install, then it should work.

Have you tried the page http://mitel/phpBB2/index.php  ?? (Or which ever path you need to have...)

I must admit that I only use the phpBB on the v5.6, so I haven't any expirience with 6.x.

It could also be possible that you could try asking Dan Brown, who wrote the HOWTO. He has a phpBB forum running on his own site at http://www.familybrown.org

You have to delete install catalogue after installation (if that is the message you get)

If not pls be more specific about what message(-s) you get.

Very little knowledge of linux here...

I read the howto, did as described, install seemed OK.

Just like the other guy I can get to the page that advises me that I should delete installation stuff.
I did only what it said in the howto, I.E. didn't delete  anything else as I have a lot of information on that old machine that is not currently fully backed up (nothing too valuable)

The index.php page has links like login profile and members etc but they do not activate, the page seems locked.
The address at the top seems right ...index.php etc.
it's almost like the php script (if that's what you call it) is not activating.

please speak slowly when replying...

OK OK I'll go stand in the corner.

When I did what it said, deleted the directories using WinSCP it worked.

What would be the correct wording to delete those directories from the command line?
