Title: remote access with putty - want root logon
Post by: ldavies on April 10, 2004, 06:16:10 AM
I am a newbie using version 5.6 and have trawled the forums but found nothing that seems to help.

I am trying to logon as root using putty.  I think I need to do this to set up a GeekLog website.  I get the following message:

login as: root
root@192.168.1.1's password:
Access denied

Note: Logging on as admin automatically boots the server console.  When I exit from that my putty session ends.

?????  Any ideas?

Look at the Server-Manager
  Security
     Remote-Access

Ensure that the
"Allow administrative command line access over secure shell" is set to YES

If it is NO then you will ge 'Access denied' when logging in as root.

When set to YES I get:

login as: root
root@xxx's password:
Last login: Fri Apr  9 22:23:35 2004 from pc-00021.xxx.yyy.net
