Title: Problem with some Jabber clients
Post by: ddougan on April 10, 2004, 07:32:35 AM
I just installed Jon Blakeley's great Jabber contrib. - no problems there. I can run Gabber successfully; however, when I try Gaim or Kopete, I get login failures with an authentication error - and the password is definitely being entered correctly.

Has anyone come across this? I've tried two versions of Gaim (on SuSE 9.0), same results.

Thanks,

Des

The problem seems to be related to Gaim and/or the Jabber server trying to set up a new user, instead of using the existing userid.

That said, I have no idea how to get round this...

You've probably already tried this but anyway this is my only sugestion. Make sure that the new clients you are using aren't trying to "Create" an new account. If you "Create" a new account when the account is already on the server you get an error. Once the account has been created on the server the client needs to "Use and Exsisting Account" instead of creating a new one. This isn't worded exactly right but I hope you get my point. Also check to make sure that the XML file for the account is in place and correct. /opt/jabber/spool/<my server>/<accounts.xml>
