Title: Second ethernet interface and SERVER ONLY option
Post by: jvdbossc on April 18, 2004, 03:41:13 PM
Hi,

I installed the latest release yesterday and it works fine.

I use a raid with 2 160gb disks.

Transferring my old data backs takes a while even when using ftp.

Therefore I was wondering if it was possible to activate the second network adapter to use 2 network cards having different ip configuration, one connected using an x over cable directly to my most used home computer.

This could enable me to have a quicker backup, without network slowdown.

I also noticed that I do not have a working proxy server in SERVER only mode.

I already have another unix box working as firewall, router, but the hardware is not fit to run a proxy server.  (486sx 12mb)...

Is there any work around, to enable the second network card, and to enable the proxy server??

Regards, and thanks for your help.

I have had 3 SME servers running as gateways and servers for years. Despite all of my paranoia I can see no evidence that any of them have ever been hacked.

Why not run your SME server as a gateway as well and get rid of the 486?

That is a good idea, yes, but since sme server is new to me, I toolk no chanche in loosing my connection to the net.  I need to look further in documentation if 'mac cloning' is available!

But even then, I want to add a 3th network card to have more bandwith when moving all data.

Regards, and thanks for suggestion
