I want to install phpMyAdmin on Sme 5.6. Where do I install it to? phpMyAdmin says in the webservers document root folder. I am guessing that if I log into sme as the root user that this is the location.
When I do a ls / I see all the root folders listed.
So do I install phpMyAdmin to this location. ?
As a new user I would welcome some advice.
The second question is about the config.inc.php file.
I know I have to edit the file so that the path to the php folder is correct. This of course depends on the location of the folder.
If installing to the root folder what would the config file line look like? Eg http://www.mywebsite.com/path to myPhpdirectory (this bit here)/
Well thanks in advance for helping out.

Use the SME RPM:

Okay downloaded the rpm for phpMyAdmin.
Do I have to put the rpm file in a particular directory on the server in order to install it?

The HowTo for this contrib is here
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/phpMyAdmin
The RPM can go anywhere.
If you think that the instructions in the link above need to be even clearer please let me know.

Okay I will update to version 6.0 and add phpmyadmin.
It would be useful to know what my config.inc.php settings should be. I have looked at various posts and am a little confused as to what is necessary and what is not essential to add.
I think I need to alter the following as a minimum:
1. localhost name ( I would put what the Ip address of server ?
2. what about other settings like MySql user and passwords do they need to be added at this point?
If anyone can help with the details here I would be grateful thanks again.

for example the file has a mysql host name

Although I recommend 6.0 this contrib works also on 5.6
There is no need to modify anything, just install the rpm. The HowTo linked above should contain all the information you need.
For this contrib it really is that easy - just install and use.

Yes it did work. My server crashed due to RAM failure after reconfiguring I installed phpmyadmin rpm and was able to log in via the web.
Thankyou for your help.
