Title: Connecting with a Speedtouch 330 USB Modem with 6.0.1
Post by: nallon on April 23, 2004, 01:09:53 PM
Trying out 6.0.1 and connecting to internet using a Thompson Speedtouch 330 USB Modem Rev 4.
Started to use the How-to for SME 5.6 for the SpeedTouch USB modem, visited the sites www.speedtouchdsl.com and speedtouch.sourceforge.net
downloaded and compiled the speedtouch.1-2.tar.gz and found the files ZZZLP1.eni and ZZZLP2.eni and installed everything. Created the scripts as per the How-to. Ignored the mounting of the USB ports as it is already mounted under usbdevfs and the loading of the n_hdlc as the kernel is 2.4.20.18
ran modem_run -m 1 -c -a ZZZLP1.eni -f ZZZLP2.eni successfully (this returned a value of 0)
ran pppd call adsl
I checked this every 5 seconds with ifconfig ppp0 and after about 20 seconds the connection died. The login and the password as set in chap-secrets works successfully using other O/S with the software supplied by thompsons, the vpi and vci were set as 0, 38 and I am using pppoa3
Why wont it connect ?

Hi,

Have you looked at this site http://www.hystedjp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ ? It contains several fixes for the rev. 4 modem.

I have been trying to set up the same modem hardware with a linux firewall/server. It is now up and running on smoothwall using the fixes from the above site.

However, I would like to move away from smoothwall if possible, to a more fully featured distribution (mainly for samba).

Would be interested to know how you get on.

best regards

Title: Problem with pppd and/or kernel
Post by: nallon on May 25, 2004, 02:10:55 PM
As the modem initialisation works I have been looking at pppd and have some questions relating to Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) with regards to Networks and pppoA

Is ATM support available with pppd for 6.01
and
Is ATM compiled into the kernel (which could be an experimental option) ?

If not where can I find a suitable kernel source ?
