Title: SME DNS SERVER
Post by: JohanesW on April 25, 2004, 04:08:48 AM
Hiya anybody out there who has experience with SME! I heard that SME Server can act as a DNS server. Does that mean that the server can host unlimited domain names?

Thanks for any help! My email is:

Johannes, first of all please read the Technicians Handbook, found under Documentation->Manuals on this site.
Its written for Mitels version (The MAS6000), but its basically the same server and after reading that you will have a much better ground for asking 'the right questions' (thats RavenIV's expression ( http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=22070.0 )).
There are people here who get very annoyed with questions like this one of yours, so lets refrain from stoking their fire.

Hello

sme can do dns but it takes some setup it does have tiny dns already installed which is a caching dns server that means it does not have any place to really enter dns info but gets a list
from the root servers

the unlimited domains is no problem only limited by hard drive space and your bandwidth you have Also it is virtual domains
apache web server can handle it Virtual means they all use the same ip address

sme is easy to use but you should read about it to see if it will fit your needs
