I accidentally deleted a critical file needed from the server. How do I get it back? I made a backup to desktop file last night...how do I restore the single file? Is there a recycle bin on SME server 5.6? If so, How do I access it?

There is no recycle bin Linux.
I am guessing that you may be able to just re-install the software. It should think you are doing an upgrade, and replace the appropriate file. Then you can restore the backup you made if required to reset your users and their data.
I am not a linux guru, just making an reasonable guess

If it's a data file just use WinRAR to restore that file only & copy to server.
You could do the same thing with "system" file(s), but you may need to run
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot
so that any changes take effect.
You don't tell us what the file is so we have to guess !!

Thanks for the input. A system file was not deleted it was simply a data file that needs to be recovered. I did a full server backup through the server manager but I cannot find an easy way to extract the files to replace the single file deleted. I have tried using Compress2000, PicoZip, TurboZip....They all extract it fine, but it only see's one big file "smeserver" ( I am doing this on a windows machine....)
I am far from bein a linux guru, that is why I have to use windows as well. If there is anyway to unzip the server backup file and be able to navigate the files, That would be fantastic. I cannot simply restore the backup now because it would overlay any changes made on the server yesterday.
Help is greatly appreciated, my butt is on the line.

Hi Olsen,
Download Total Commander from http://www.ghisler.com/ and open the file with that fantastic tool.
First time it will ask for configuration of the compressed file extension e.g. Winrar , ARJ etc. etc.
Just click ok, as Total Commander opens TAR files out of the box :-D
And bingo, you can browse to the needed file.
Cheers

P.s. Check out Vestfyns Ale 5,7 Vol. in ALDI – Best beer in Denmark.

That...my friend....Was the most amazing thing to happen all day. The program worked flawlessly. Retrieved the file and Life is good.
Gonna go have a beer now.
My sincere gratitude! Thanks.

Haven't tried any of them myself yet, and the documentation seems a bit sparse. One's to be found here:

For the do-it-yourself crowd:

These all look a bit old; I can't find a more polished HOWTO on contribs.org. Any master searchers out there care to give it a go?
