Summary: Clam AntiVirus 0.70 release and new functionality level
On April 24th, a new functionality level will be introduced in the database. There are a few signatures which can't be used by pre-0.70 scanner engines, so we need you to upgrade immediately to 0.70. Clam AntiVirus is a GPL virus scanner featuring: * scanning into multiple archives (such as .deb and .tar.gz) * mutated Aho-Corasic algorithm (very fast scanning) * multi-threading, autodetecting the number of CPUs * POSIX compliance
Thought you might like to know (as I would like to benefit from the fruits of your labour :-))

www.pagefault.org antivirus update on 24th February. As I already had most of the stuff updated, I just downloaded the clamav-es and clamav-es-libs rpms and updated them.

I followed the install & I still get:
ClamAV update process started at Mon May 3 10:19:00 2004
main.cvd is up to date (version: 22, sigs: 20229, f-level: 1, builder: tkojm)
daily.cvd is up to date (version: 299, sigs: 1142, f-level: 2, builder: diego)
WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED - please update immediately !
WARNING: Current functionality level = 1, required = 2
Is there a simple way to update?

Reply to my own post.
running:
yum -c ./yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf update
@9am, was so-called up-to-date
@2pm, did update properly to amavid 0.7

ClamAV worked very good until I did:
yum -c ./yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf update
Now I'm getting blank emails. I can't find any errors in any logs but if I uninstall ClamAV my emails return. The /var/lib/clamav/clamd.sock file isn't being created correctly when I start ClamAV. Actually it was created correctly at first then after I received two emails it's size changed to 0 and I started getting blank emails.

Check the clamav.conf file in /etc and see if it has the option:
FixStaleSocket
If not add it in, save, and restart Clam
PS - check the log files to see what yum actually updated

For those that prefer not to use yum you can get the updates directly from Damien Curtain (thanks Damien) at the following url:
http://www.pagefault.org/code/e-smith/antivirus/6.0.1/i386/

YUP it's in there.

Which log(s) are you refering to?
My fix was to uninstall ClamAV [YUM version] completely and reinstall using the Swerts-Knudsen shell script available at: http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/index.html?frame=http%3A//sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/howtos/howto_22.htm

My sugestion would be to upgrade. The data base for 7.0 and previous verisions aren't compatable. (See first post in thread.)
I finally got mine to upgrade to 7.0 don't ask me how. I've tried so many different things I can only remember a hand full of the things I tried.
Here is what I remember first I...
Then I rebooted the machine. Then I used the...
yum -c ./yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf update
So far so good but I haven't made it 24 hours yet. I'll post back what I find.
P.S. Really don't understand why the first step couldn't have been...
Download the yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf configuration file:
wget http://www.pagefault.org/code/e-smith/antivirus/6.0/conf/yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf
Install the packages via yum:
yum -c ./yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf install e-smith-antivirus
It's possible that after 6 hours of trying to get it to work I made a couple of mistakes.... :pint:

Thanks for the feedback. I can wait a couple of days to see how you make out.
I've written to both of the gentlemen who wrote the contribs and I'm waiting to hear back from them as well.
I'll post any replies I get.
Thanks
Paul

Used YUM update (got sock problems in antivirus log from it) then rebooted server. Very thing working correctly now

Thanks for this, it's all useful stuff. However I'm still having a slight problem because I don't actually seem to even have yum on my system. I have SME 6.0.
I've found some yum RPM's here:
http://www.linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/download.ptml
Is this what I want? If so, which one? I have no idea what version of RedHat SME 6.0 uses. If that's not it, do you know where I can get it?
Thanks

Well, I use Darrell Mays yum-contrib (from the download-section).
Works a treat !
If you go a couple of months back in the devinfo mailing list, you'll find some headlines covering the subject.
Afterwards do a search in the forums to find related posts. There are quite a few.

Thanks wyron, I found it through the devinfo mailing list archives like you suggested, at this URL:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/smeserver/6.x/beta/yum/
For anyone who's having the same problem as me, here's exactly what I did.
Download the three RPMs from the URL I mentioned above, as follows:
wget http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/smeserver/6.x/beta/yum/rpm-python-4.0.4-7x.18.i386.rpm
wget http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/smeserver/6.x/beta/yum/yum-1.0.3-1_73.noarch.rpm
wget http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/smeserver/6.x/beta/yum/smeserver-yum-1.0.0-03dmay.noarch.rpm
Install them (they need to be installed in this order, or at least the smeserver one needs to be installed last):
rpm -Uvh rpm-python-4.0.4-7x.18.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh yum-1.0.3-1_73.noarch.rpm
rpm -Uvh smeserver-yum-1.0.0-03dmay.noarch.rpm
That's yum installed, now download the conf file as in one of the posts above:
wget http://www.pagefault.org/code/e-smith/antivirus/6.0/conf/yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf
Now update ClamAV, as in the fourth post in this thread:
yum -c ./yum-e-smith-antivirus.conf update
That should be it. You can test it immediatley by typing:
freshclam
If your still on the old versions you'll probably get the errors mentioned in the third post in this thread. Otherwise it should update your clamav database properly.

The yum staff should work with the Jesper“s contrib on a 5.6 version ? :-o
Thanks

Another question: Is possible in the Jesper“s Contrib to jast only upgrade the clamav-es-0.70-es01.i386.rpm and clamav-es-libs-0.70-es01.i386.rpm to upgrade to clamav 0.70 on a sme 5.6 vers.?
-
All,
If you once have installed by use of the script on SME.Swerts-knudsen.dk then just re-run the script to get updated to 0.70 with new functionality.
If you have a YUM installation use the description from pagefault.org

Jesper Knudsen

[6.0.1-01. machine] Did the yum conf update, issued freshclam, rebooted, checked frehsclam.log. All fine. Hooray for pagefault, yum and the ClamAV Team.

I got an answer back from Damien:
You should be able to update the installation by following the same
procedure listed for installation. It should install the panel and
any other required rpms and then update the existing clam antivirus
installation with an e-smith specific one.
The installation you have is just a wrapper script around my original
manual installation, ie. the packages were from my site aswell.
Remember to go into the panel and reconfigure your settings after
installation.
-- Damien
So I did as he suggested and it seems to work just fine. :-D
