In Internet Explorer when I go to http://www.myprimarydomainname.com/home my web browser takes me to http://68.62.40.XXX/home.
Also when I go to http://www.myibayname.com/home my web browser takes me to http://68.62.40.XXX/home.
This only happens when I try to access my websites from outside the network. On the lan it all works just fine and I go to the correct domain name.
As background I recently installed a geeklog rpm which may have changed some of the e-smith server settings. I am using latest release 6.0.1.
QUESTION
Does anyone have any idea where I can look to find out what this might be and what might be causing it?
Help appreciated.
-
ah come one. this has to be a simple one for someone who knows what they are doing. What have I done to #%^&* up my e-smith 6.0.1 server.
Thanks
-
how about you do a nslookup outside of your domain and see what it returns? Even trace to it. How about posting your domain name here and let some of us try to hit your domain and see what happens. R U only testing trying to hit your domain from one particular pc?

I believe you will find the problem to be with your dns registrar, or name server. That is where things are resolved.
your name server needs to have a "C" record (which is an alias) that point to your domain.
Different registrars handel some of the verbage a little differently, So check their faq or help areas.

no it is not with my dns registar because it was all working fine until i installed some rpms to help with a geeklog installation. Unfortunately it was a week before I realized it and a lot happened in that week.
Although it is a bit strange that when I do a nslookup on all of them it returns 64.202.167.129 but when I go to my registrar the accounts still forward correctly to 68.166.34.32 which is my static ip.
Here is my httpd.conf file if that helps:

# Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
# server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
# sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
# handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient

# It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting

Hi - dns is OK. All 3 domains resolve to your 66.166.etc ip. but they all wind up at the primary site.
www.boldwellies.com/lloydus gets me to your lloydus ibay as does /poopily get me to the correct ibay so your aliases are OK. I can't see anything obviously wrong with the httpd.conf file so all I can suggest is removing and re-adding the domains in servermanager or at least changing their primary sites temporarily. This will also restart httpd which may help.
Good luck
brian k

I'll do what you suggest but what I really want is to go to www.lloydus.net when I type it into a browser from outside my LAN. That's what e-smith does right???
I do not want to go to http://www.boldwellies.com/lloydus at all. I want to type http://www.lloydus.net. Same goes for the annoying ipaddress. I'd like http://www.boldwellies.com not http://68.166.34.32
I'd also like to know why I can do this on the LAN but not from outside it but that would be for academic purposes - my primary goal is to get it working right.

-
I just changed my primary to point to /home/e-smith/files/ibays/primary/html and now it is pointing everything to /geeklog/ which is an old reference from a geeklog rpm install. When I get home I will check if I have a redirect to /geeklog/ in a file located at /home/e-smith/files/ibays/primary/html/index.html.
-
Hi - before you changed anything www.boldwellies.com was going correctly to /home/e-smith/files/ibays/primary/html which has a geeklog. I did not need to use the ip address.
The other domains were also going to this primary directory which is, as you say incorrect.
www.lloydus.net should get redirected to /home/e-smith/files/ibays/lloydus/html.
<I do not want to go to www.boldwellies.com/lloydus at all. I want to type www.lloydus.net.
Yes I realise - I was just letting you know that this did get to the lloydus ebay so your aliasing is working.
Regards
Brian K
