Title: text editor - Forgive me
Post by: Olsen on May 01, 2004, 08:57:59 PM
Forgive me for my ignorance in advance....

I installed ClamAV on my server and on the instructions, I need to edit the .conf file in a text editor.  Well, since I am new to this, I do not know how to open a file in a text editor on SME server.  I am an ex windows man trying to make it in a Linux conversion.  Is there a text editor installed on SME 6.0?  How do I open it?  Thanks!

Been there, done that, felt helpless. There are several editors eg pico but I find the most useful is midnight commander as it acts like a file browser and does more as well as editing.
Type mc at a command line - enjoy :)
(I had to post to ask how to get a command line
There is a quick help file for midnight commander here
http://www.suse.com/us/private/support/online_help/howto/mc/ as it is not wonderfully intuitive to drive.
