Hello,
A very basic security question:
With blades now gone, How do I keep my server patched properly and promptly?
I don't want to end up in a situation where I don't find out about an urgent patch for 3 weeks and get hacked or get a virus.
I'm currently running SME 6000 'upsupported developer release'.
Thank you very much!

Here is what I'm aware of:
For "official" contribs.org updates
Go to www.contribs.org
Select Downloads
Scroll down the page until you see
Index of /pub/Linux/distributions/smeserver
click on updates
click on version number ie 6.0.1
Read the updates.txt file
Instal the update rpms that are in the rpms folder
You may also want to read the Update release announcement(s) in the News section, and in the News Archives sections eg
http://no.longer.valid/news/archive.php?year=2004&month=3
For "unofficial" bleeding edge updates from Mitel see
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/devel/
and the various subfolders.
Make sure you read the README file for explanation/disclaimer.

Thank you for that!
Hopefully someone will write a blades equivalent at some point, but that certainly helps in the mean time...

Have you tried YUM

I find it pretty useful.
