The machine only uses 1 perl-based program I can think of, ASSP antispam service. Any idea why the "perl" process is hogging all the cpu?

Hi
How long ago do you install the script ?
Is it the fosrt time this process is hopping all the cpu
Try to reboot the server
or
Try to upgrade to 6.x :-D

Souley

Sorry for posting I tracked it down easily- it was ASSP's spamrebuilddb.pl which was taking 11 hours to complete from its nightly start at 4am.

I have the same problem: how do you fix it?
Is there any method to avoid this situation?
I think I must disable spamrebuild or delete some
spam sample...

Hi- I moved the rebuild task from daily to weekly.
(read up on cron if this is unfamiliar to you)
The default time to run is 4am- if you can move it earlier, it might finish earlier. I've moved the rebuild to 22:00 on Friday night- so long as it is done by Monday its OK for this server.
I've also installed more RAM in the server to improve performance.

The company in question is a PR company who get incredible amounts of spam, so its probably a worst case scenario.. ;)
