Title: 20gb drive shows as 9gb?
Post by: Patrick Basile on August 23, 2001, 07:41:02 PM
Hi,

I am wondering why my 20gb hard drive shows up as 9gb when I issue the 'df -h' command logged in as root?  I have two identical Maxtor 20gb hard disks installed, and they are setup using software RAID1 (mirroring) included with e-smith.

Here is what I get:

Filesystem                           Size      Used    Avail       Use%  Mounted on
/dev/md1                              9.3G      307M   8.4G         4%      /
/dev/md0                              9.9M      3.0M    6.4M         32%    /boot

Any ideas why the "Size" isn't showing a full 20GB (or something close)?

Btw - the BIOS at boot time does show both drives as being 20GB, but perhaps there is something I don't have set right?

Regards,
Patrick

Patrick,
This is a known bug in 4.1.2, you can find the fix here http://e-smith.org/bugs/index.php3?op=showBug&bugID=40

Lloyd,

Thanks for the link to the 'known bug' for software RAID in 4.1.2.  It turns out that I did some digging around the forum here, and found a post about installing the EZ-Bios software from Maxtor - which apparently fixes the problem.  It did on my system anyway.

Regards,
Patrick
