Title: "mail" system account
Post by: vk6ad on May 12, 2004, 01:18:23 PM
Hi all
Background:
Before I changed over to e-smith a few years ago I was using the email address "mail@<mydomain>". After changing to e-smith I realised that the "mail" user was a bit special and I had to do a fiddle in /home/e-smith/.qmail to get my mail forwarded to my own address. Only problem now is that all mail addressed to non-existant users is also forwarded according to .qmail. I'd therefore like to delete the "mail" account and then set it up as a regular user account or alias.

Question:
Is it safe or even possible to delete the "mail" system account?

Thanks

Perhaps this might help to reject the non existant user mail.

Hi
Thanks for that. I downloaded and installed the rpm and it works well - except it now also blocks messages addressed to "mail". I need to receive those ones because some of my contacts persist in using the old email address.
But on the positive side, I should now get a lot less junk mail.

I just got the brain into gear and added a rult to accept mail to "mail@<domain>" and all is well. I still need to fudge the .qmail file in /home/e-smith but I can live with that.
