Title: Limited admin abilities for certain users
Post by: Jon_Reynolds on May 16, 2004, 12:28:08 AM
I would like to give the owner of a virtual domain the ability to add and remove users to their domain. How would I do this?

Thanks for any help,

Jon

SME is not designed for seperate domain user management.
All the solutions for separate virtual users and domains are just aliases and redirectors for single user comunity.
You can delegate some of the server-management functions to users by using user-panel contribs, but this is as much as it goes. Let us know that you are trying to do in more details and maybe someone can recommend you solution.

Thanks for the reply Boris. I have the user-panel installed and was not sure if this would what I wanted. As for what I am trying to accomplish, I have a virtual domain and I want to allow the admin of that domain to administer his own email and website through some sort of management console, user-panel seems to be what I am after.

Thanks for clarifying that for me,

Jon

I want to allow the admin of that domain to administer his own email....

The problem is that he doesn't have his own email. E-mail is shared via entire SME server community, that is e-mail to user@domain1.com is the same as user@domain2.com and goes to user@any_domain_on_this_server.com mailbox.
Admin can create aliases for user@domain1.com -> user1 and user@domain2.com -> user2 etc..
dungog.net has a paid for contrib to assist you with this but you don't want to delegate that feature to your "virtual domain admins".
