Title: Port Forwarding port 25
Post by: Anonymous on May 17, 2004, 07:40:56 PM
Hi all,

I currently run an ancient bit of proxy software (MS Proxy 2) and its so hard to keep it working correctly. It will work fine for months then it will start playing up with no clue as to what the error is.

I am looking at replacing it with an SME server but at the moment I have an exchange server sitting behind the proxy.

I have set up a test SME server and tried forwarding port 25 to the internal exchange server but when you try to connect through the external IP address, the SME servers inbuilt smtp server picks up the connection.

Is there any way to map port 25 (and also all other emails ports) through the server or will the inbuilt server always pick up on these?

thanks

Using SME 6.x just enter a delgate mail server in the Email setup panel pointing to your Exchange box.

If you install Clam/Spamassassin on the SME box it will check/filter the mail before it hit the Exchange box.

The only connector needed on the Exchange box is SMTP as Exchange is not POPing the mail but accepting it from the SME box as an SMTP transaction.

Ahhhh i tried that and when i telneted to the IP address it picked up the SME server. I didnt think it would pass the requests through to the internal server after it checked them

I will give this a try tomorrow.

many thanks
