Title: limit internet access to just a few sites
Post by: crazybob on May 23, 2004, 06:02:42 AM
I have a client that wants to allow access to only a few web sites, thus preventing game playing etc. I am looking for recommendations on how to do this. should I use squidguard, dansguardian, or iptables or something else? The server is sme 6.0 final.

Thanks

Bob

Your client should put the blocking in place that relieves
you from any problems legal or other

Is the sme box a gateway ?
What does the client use to get to the internet ?

win xp
win 98
fedora
lindows what ?

I believe it would be better to let the client put some blocking software on their own computer - (previous isp talking)

If you block access for one you block for all

Is the sme box at clients office or home ?
it will not matter then if blocking is put in place

http://www.squidguard.org/  has alot of info on it's use

and will do what you need

The SME box is server/gateway configuration connected to a DSL modem

The work stations are a mix of XP home, and 98

The box is at the clients office.

I will give squidguard a good look.

Thanks
