Title: anyone installed vmware successfuly under e-smith?
Post by: Anonymous on May 26, 2004, 11:12:32 PM
Hi,

Looks like 4.0 neither 4.5 versions of vmware have prebuilt modules for 6.01 e-smith's kernel. I guess there are 2 choices here 1) to install gcc and e-smith kernel headers and compile custom modules for vmware or 2) To use a kernel which is directly supported by vmware. Anyone installed satisfactorily  vmware? Which path did you use?

cheers

Ruben

VMWare requires X-Windows, it will not work on the SME server. The opposite is possible: SME works fine as a guest on VMWare.

As been pointed many times here, don't do it. SME it a server, not a workstation. If you want to play with VMWare, install it on your workstation.

Windows XP with Bonzi Buddy and maybe IM to my l33t palz on my e-smith server.  Is that possible???

JUST KIDDING!!!

With hardware as cheap as it is now ... many corporations throw out PCs that would have been state-of-the-art three years ago ... WHY WHY WHY do these questions keep coming up?
