Title: corrupt disk accessing single user mode
Post by: sagemajor on May 28, 2004, 08:28:35 PM
My disk is corrupt and worse it looks like the shadow file is bad so when I boot with Mitel-SME-up single it trys to do a fsck and fails then asks for the root password which got corrupt and is not right.  How can I get into single user mode to fix the password file and run fsck?

Now you know what that boot floppy you didn't create is for ;-)

I favour using one of the rescue CD utilities - I'm currently using the one found at http://www.sysresccd.org/

Burn the image to CD, boot from it and you can do most anything you need disk-wise.
