Title: I would like to confirm that SME Server will meet my needs
Post by: wyldphyre on May 29, 2004, 12:49:56 PM
Hi,

I guessing this question wont be hard to answer, so here goes.

I wish to shift a domain that I have to a box that I maintain myself. This would include website and email. Having looked at the info available on this website, I am fairly sure that SME Server will meet my needs (I don't need a firewall, got one already) regards the website side of things, but I just want to confirm how I think the email server side will work.

Am I correct in thinking that the email server will be THE email repository for my domain, and not just a service that will try and draw the domains email from  somewhere else?

The reason I ask, is a friend had a similar setup (where it retrieved the email from elsewhere), and I want to make sure that my SME Server installation will infact be the server that email is sent directly to for storage from the web(since there wont be anywhere else for it to go).

thanks

Yes, SME can handle all of your email. You'll need to be sure that your domain record points at your SME box.
